Intro to PC building build

Hello guys,

I am in the market for a new computer. I am coming from a 2010 MBP and need a new main computer. I am a college student with 2 years left until I get my MBA, so I was torn between getting a new ultrabook or building my own PC and keeping my MBP for class. For my build I have about 1.2k to 1.4k euros in spending (have to remember that PC parts are a bit more expensive in Europe). I wanted something that I could game with, but also do word processing, streaming, etc. This is what I had in mind:

I already have a decent keyboard, so no need for that in my budget.

Any suggestions for a tweak in my build? Any advice to my predicament between new laptop or keeping old MBP and building a PC?

Thanks!

welcome to the forum ;)@HisTaintness

MOBO: i'd recommend one that has included wifi if you need it, but nothing is better than a good stable cable connection

Display: while you aim on 60hz gaming you could try an IPS display instead of TN for much better colors etc

GPU: instead of the 970 better get a 1070, double the VRAM, less wattage needed, better performance

Thanks!

Do you have any recommendations for a MOBO with wifi integrated? I know a cable connection is more stable, but my router is too far and I'd have to buy a internet plug thing to get the cable within reach, which is a possibility.

Do you have any preferred IPS displays? I'm looking at the Asus VX239H as an IPS display.

I'll have to keep my eye out when the 1070 drops. I wouldn't start building until around the end of August beginning of September probably, so that might be when the 1070 comes out!

Thanks for your help!

A very similar build to what I am putting together at the moment.

CPU: *Intel Core i5-6600 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($215.99 @ SuperBiiz)
CPU Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock 3 67.8 CFM Fluid Dynamic Bearing CPU Cooler  ($89.00 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: Asus H170-PRO ATX LGA1151 Motherboard  ($110.00 @ Amazon)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory  ($59.99 @ Amazon)
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  ($88.99 @ Amazon)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  ($47.49 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 4GB WINDFORCE Video Card  ($319.49 @ Amazon)
Case: Phanteks ECLIPSE P400S ATX Mid Tower Case  ($77.98 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: Corsair CSM 550W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply  ($63.98 @ Newegg)
Monitor: BenQ RL2455HM 24.0" 60Hz Monitor  ($179.00 @ Amazon)

Monitor wise, it all depends on what  you plan to do. TN panels provide better refresh rates (good for gaming) but not great viewing angles or the best colours. IPS provide better colour but are more expensive and usually the worst when it comes to refresh rates and lag.

You should be fine with the wifi card or look into a power line solution which is what I may have to invest in as well.

What country are you in? PC Partpicker has support for some countries in Europe.

I am in France. I have a couple of sites I can order from, but the prices are a bit more then in the US.

For everything on my list, I am at 1452.11euros (Including Win10 which isn't on my list). I compared the prices on 3 sites and took the lowest I could find. Might change the GPU to either the GTX1070 or the RX480 depending on reviews and price.
