Air Or Water Cooling?

Hey, I'm getting a new Pc and I'm deciding whether to get a Hyper Tx3 Evo or the Corsair H55. What are the pros and cons of using both coolers, On my last pc I had the Tx3 and I got a 4.4Ghz OC on my i7 6700k what are the temps like on the H55 and which should I get?

Why that air cooler, specifically?

 

My preference is for air - quieter, fewer points of failure.

The Hyper 212 EVO is one of the most recommended budget heatsinks ever

The 212 is a better value. Smaller air coolers should be avoided unless you need to conform to a form factor.

 

That said, I got the NH-U12S instead of the NH-U14S for no reason other than I liked the smaller size. Still, 92mm is pushing it.

You know that is very true, but they generally don't look quite as nice as Closed Loop AiOs or Open loop set ups.

Though Cryorig and Be Quiet! have a couple nice looking Air Coolers.

Water cooling can transfer heat a lot faster than air, allowing your CPU to have more overclocking room as well as less thermal throttling. They also don't require big heatsinks to be effective like how many air coolers require them, making them better with stuff like high-profile RAM (if you're into that stuff) as well as smaller cases.

 

However, air coolers are cheaper and still pretty effective. They're mainly just fans (usually 120mm) attached to heatsinks, and if the fan fails, you can replace it with ease. Water cooling adds the pump as an additional part that can fail, and they're not cheap to replace.

 

I'd go with air unless you need the extra muscle a water cooler can give you.

Would a hyper 212 evo fit inside the NZXT Phantom 410? If so I'll be definitely getting it for my next build.

Personally, I like the nickel-plated finish and elegant, utilitarian design of Noctua coolers. be quiet!, phanteks, and others also make attractive products.

 

Ultimately I spend less time looking at my cooler than listening to it, so I prefer to ensure that it will be reliable and silent.

According to pcpp, yes. I also recommend either a be quiet! Pure Rock (because the fan is betterish) or a Cryorig H7 (looks better)

That's an interesting perspective. Well I suppose if you don't have a window in your PC or don't have your PC on the desk, you're not going to be seeing the cooler a whole lot. Liquid Coolers while being more prone to causing issues at least they a.) look better and b.) can get heat away from a CPU better than an air cooler. I plan on using an H440 in my build so I'm not sure the 3 fans are enough to have enough air flow for an i5 6600K with an H5 Ultimate and either a GTX 1070 or R9 490.

Would the be quite! Dark rock 3 be a good  choice?

Well water is more dense then air so it can transfer more heat making it so you can OC further. Also to the people saying they leak. That is the point of a close loop AIO. No changing of fluid no leaks no maintenance.

True but it can still technically leak. Also they tend to cost more than air coolers. But do look better and do technically get heat away from the CPU better than air.
