I'm looking for some help in putting together a build for my dad.  He's a lawyer and just moved offices so he's looking to upgrade his computer. I told him I could save him some money if he let me build him one, so here we are.

The computer needs to run Microsoft office

All he does is type documents, send emails (light internet browsing), and he uses facetime to speak with his clients

I don't know much about specs for machines like this, just gaming machines which he definitely doesn't need so I'd appreciate the help.

For the most part this could be quite cheap.  Pretty much any intel processor will do, 8 GB of RAM would be fine.  Things I'd get that are a little higher end would be an SSD and a really nice monitor.  And a nice case if this is going to be visible at all.  And a really good webcam with a good mic.

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

A NUC with 8gb of RAM and an SSD would be great.

Having more storage space isn't a bad thing anyway. Sure, a lawyer probably isn't going to fill up 2 TB with Word documents, but if you purchase a smaller drive you're getting less for your money.

I understand but with him it really comes down to spending as little money as possible, and if all he needs is 1tb, then he won't want to spend extra money on storage he doesn't need
