Is the RX 480 the entry level card, has this card replaced the R5 240 ?

Or is it the R9 390 replacement ?

I feel a bit confused and I also feel in some way I should already know the answer to this which doesn't help with my confusion

The rx 480 is mostly a 380/x replacement.

It is priced at that level, though it should offer 390/x performance.

The 390/x and fury/x replacements should come with Vega.

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

I believe there are going to be 4 and 8GB configurations. Why they didn't just do 8GB and leave it at that is beyond me.

Price i guess

for countries like mine the difference is like 150 levs which is 75 euros in such cards when it comes to gb

but we see it like 150 euros so yeah

I didn't know what to put here...

The RX 480 is a high end entry level gaming card.

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

That's true, but if someone wants a 4GB card, there's the 300-series. I understand it's an 'entry-level' VR/mid-level gaming card; but if it's really for VR, 4GB of VRAM isn't much. I just think they should have kept the RX 480 as an 8GB card, and let the 470 come as a 4GB or even 6GB card.

*Sidenote: I keep wanting to type Rx Bandits, instead of RX 480. Fack.

All 6 Polaris 11 cards are to feature 4GB of VRAM at least according to wikipedia videocardz (how the fuck did I get those two mixed up?).

so a mid range gaming card :P

and an entry level VR gaming card :)

No sir.  It is a high end entry level card.  It is not a low end mid-ranged card, or anything else.  It is in the higher end of the entry level cards from AMD.

For example, their previous gaming generation cards were positioned as so:

Entry Level Gaming:

R9-380

R9-380X

Mid Level Gaming:

R9-390

R9-390X

High End Gaming:

R9-Nano

R9-Fury

R9-FuryX

Edit: If you want to get extremely technical you could start to include the R7-370 and R7-360, but I consider these "Entertainment" branded video cards, not really gaming cards.  And your R5 series cards are really positioned as integrated video replacements.

Lol. Wikipedia? Really?

The RX 480 will come in both 4GB and 8GB configurations (the former being the £160/$200 model)

Either way, there will be 4GB and 8GB versions; I wonder what the price bump will be for the 8GB. I'd guess $249 or maybe even $299? If that's the case, depending on how the 480 benchmarks, the price:performance value may still swing towards team green. If they could have had the 8GB at $199...damn.

People are saying $229 for the 8GB variant, would make sense as that's the price for the 380X.
