WTH Whining on new components

Go to solution Solved by Sandwraithx157,

I had a terribly loud coil whine on my Maximus Formula 5 from day 1 that i lived with until the Formula 6 came out. No coil whine after that. Not 100% sure if it was the board or just the combination of parts together, either way replacing the board made it go away for me.

So, I have been running my PC for about 20 minutes reading Valve news. After the controller news hit I began folding and reading the forums.

My GPU/PSU starts whistling/whining.

HX1050 is about a month old. 780 SC is 2 months old. Running default clocks. 0 power saving features in BIOS.

It is quieter now but still exists.

WTH. Any clue?

It's coil whine. It may stop over time, but it will most likely persist.

It's a new issue. Just started today. I have been having buzzes in sync with mouse movement since the beginning, which disabling most power saving features softened the buzing. I think my Corsair Fanboy-ism is coming to a close. My Vengeance 2000 headset cracked on me last week. 2 months old.

I think most of my issues are related to this motherboard. The only problem with that is, although, Asus has many boards WAY better than this, I don't want to upgrade until a 1090FX? board comes to market. I am believing this will never happen though.

This is what I want to hear and also not wanting to hear. Since you gave me a solution that worked for you, I'll mark as solved.

It's almost as if my mobo is acting like Vsync but the GPU doesn't throttle to correspond. I do believe coil whine happens when a bottleneck is occurring, not strictly to typical data throughput in common bottleneck topics, but voltage and other components not taking the finished WU off of the GPU fast enough. So the PSU keeps sending power to the GPU and the mobo takes a bit to adjust. It does go away mostly after a minute or 2.

So, basically, I think my HX1050 and gtx780 are bending over my Biostar and....    ...all she can do is scream for help.

Too much?

PS    Where the hell is my folding badge?

5 WU's last week. My goal is to fold at least one WU per week. I've been folding for an hour or 2 every other day. My current WU should be finished in 1.5 hours which originally estimated a 7 hour fold.

It's best to fold non-stop for the active period. You get more points.

Does it work the same way with BOINC? Cause I'm on the LTT team with Poem@home and I haven't gotten a badge yet.
