Does anyone know if Linus will be doing a review of this year's Razer Blade?

He will but let me save you the trouble

It runs at 84-96*C and thermal throttles

Fans run at 59.6dB aka louder than ANY other laptop on the market - even louder than a reference 290X

Nope - it's just that the cooling is horrible for a 140W config. It's loud and throttles in games. When you have components run at extreme temps they tend to die sooner (1-1.5 years).

Not to mention batteries suffer as well

1 - That's not the Blade 2016
2 - That's a user review - do you want me to link you 100s of those where people are having issues? No? Okay, dismiss it then.
3 - both his components are thermal throttling - the CPU down to 2.2 from 2.4 and the GPU is at it's max safe temp of 85*C
4 - the cooling solution hasn't been changed since the 110W Blade 2013.

I actually would love to hear from some people about the 2016 Razer Blade's thermal performance, and not on AAA titles on max settings, because that's not what the laptop is for.

Excuse me? A 970M laptop is EXACTLY for that. If you want light gaming you buy a 940M ultrabook, not a 970M 2000$ machine. We had a lengthy thread about this which was finally settled when owners of the Blade came in and said it's not good under load. Read it

I'd love to see that link. I respectfully disagree with your assertion that all 970M notebooks are supposed to run AAA titles at max settings.

If that is not intended then by all means just don't put in that type of power hog or furnace in your laptop - put a 950M and be done with it.

The thread is on the laptop section

If I'm spending 3000 bucks on a gaming laptop then you can bet I'm going to be playing games on the highest settings possible.

Otherwise what's the point of the laptop?

It's 2000.

I also think that we can all agree that price v. performance ratio isn't the only variable at work in choosing a laptop. I could buy an alienware 17 for the same price, and the Alienware would outperform the Razer, no doubt, but I don't think anyone could argue that those two notebooks should be compared. The audience is different.

I can - both are marketed as the "best gaming laptop" and thus can be compared. If Razer stops drilling that the Blade is the "ultimate gaming machine" I'd lay off but since it fails at the #1 thing it's marketed for it deserves to be hammered for it.

As for value - we're not talking value, we're talking using the hardware. What good is a quad-core i7 and high end GPU if both will simply overheat and throttle to levels below a medium end config? It's pointless...

You take the marketing lines far too seriously. Any good marketing department is going to try to sell their product as "the ultimate" whatever, or "the last word" in something. You have to learn to interact with the product as it is, not as it's marketed to be.

That is what I do - but unlike the Alienware R15 or the GS60 Ghost Pro - the Blade CANNOT deliver on ANY promise.

Dacksy: You posted exactly the same line (with the fireplace) on a comparison thread I posted. And yet no one here has shown me any worrying benchmarks on the Razer Blade 2016's thermal performance.
