nope thats fine im pretty sure

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

^ this guy really is a troll.... No there won't be any bottleneck whatsoever. Saying your Xeon would bottleneck a 1080 in anyway is like saying anything on the i7 X99 platform would bottleneck it. That's just not happening. You're are perfectly fine for a 1080 with your Xeon.

anytime :D I'm glad I was able to help. You could actually run 1080 SLI with that Xeon no problem from looking at Intels Ark. That chip is more than capable of handling it.

Well thank you! I guess my foresight when buying this mobo in november for a 100 bucks paid off then. 100 for the proc, 70 for the ram. not a bad budget build.

I was saying that because of the launch date so i thought the architecture would be a little bit outdated :)

No m8 I wasn't referring to you as the troll. I was referring to @derpy_epic_minecraftboy_XD look at everything he has posted on recently.. his comments are stupid and just pure troll. WIth how powerful the 1080 is supposed to be it's expected to be unsure on what chips will bottleneck this card.

8 cores with hyperthreading ... that won't bottleneck GPU for next 5 years at least.

But overall it's bad gaming CPU.

So in this video you can see that simple i7 6700k perform better than those CPUs with 6 or 8 cores.

So for gaming you don't realy need more than i7 6700k or 4790k

In fact, you get lower performance with intel xeon CPUs, mostly because it can't be overclocked, it have low frequency and in general it's meant for servers and workstations.

And another video:

Xeon simpy isn't for gaming.

Sure it can run games great, but does it run it better than i7 4790k? Nope.

So why waste 1000$ on xeon if you get better gaming performance for around 300$ on i7 4790k.

Simple as that :)

most games dont care if you have 4 cores/4 threads or 8 cores/16 threads...

what you have there is a sandy-bridge chip that is running at only 3ghz...it's getting long in the tooth for sure and when it comes to gaming the single-core performance (which is the most relevant spec to a processor) is pretty low due to the CPU being several generations old and running at a very low clock-speed...i can easily imagine many situations in CPU heavy games where such a CPU would have a noticeable impact on performance even on GPU's much slower than a GTX 1080.

it's not a good gaming CPU by today's standard, and i wouldn't pair it with such a high-end graphics solution that's for sure...it's multi-threaded performance is still up there and it would perform great in a rendering or workstation environment or in a server running multiple virtual machines for example...but in gaming where IPC and clockspeed is king...nahh it ain't great...not bad...for 100$ it's great, but it's not a high-end CPU when it comes to gaming, in fact it's a low/mid-range option in that arena.

Oh woow, I just checked for that CPU ... it's like 4 years old and cost around 130$ on ebay.

Price realy dropped for this one lol

But at release it was over 1500$ worth.

Not sure why is that 8 core CPU from intel selling so cheap :o

What new games only run on 1 core? none that I play. I noticed a huge improvement over my i5 3570 running at 3.7.

It depends realy ... some games are more CPU heavy and would benefit from your CPU.

But most games are looking for single core performance.

If it's running okay for you, just leave it so :)

Black ops would freeze with my i5 all the time and would run at 100 percent cpu usage. I had to alt-tab to get it to move. this breezes through it with 35%-40% cpu usage.
