I can't install windows. Help me?

So, I have a friend who game me his sisters(about 24) laptop to reinstall the windows

She has a PackardBellt Agro C(it doesn't matter)

He told me that only one usb works

So, because it's a old laptop I tried to install Windows XP on it(her laptop has the serial for it) but as soon as setup starts copying the files, it gives me an error saying that a file couldn't be found. I tried again a couple of times but I got to the same result

Then I made a bootable USB and tried to install it from ther(another iso of the windows) and still got the same results

Now I'm trying to install windows 7 from a dvd but it's stuck at 0% in "expandin files" or something similar, and after 3-4 minutes it gives me an error saying that the file can't be found

So, please tell me what else can I do.I really need to install the windows. She said that she doesn't care if she loses any data

P.S. : my friend told me that his sister wouldn't trust me that's why she was a litle suspicious. Coincidence?

P.P.S: I have time till tomorrow morning(about 14 hours)

This is odd. The only thing I can think of is that the DVD and USB ports are functioning incorrectly.

Check BIOS settings also try to put files on USB Stick thru these method:

Create a bootable Windows on Flash Memory
1. Format the USB flash memory drive to FAT32 file system

Run CMD.EXE and type the following command. Note: This set of commands assumes that the USB flash drive is addressed as “disk 1”. Double check that by doing a list of the disks (type “list disk”) before cleaning it).

    diskpart
    select disk 1
    clean
    create partition primary
    select partition 1
    active
    format fs=fat32
    assign
    exit

2. Copy Windows DVD ROM content to the Flash Drive

Type in command to start copying all the content from the Windows DVD to your newly formatted high speed flash drive.

xcopy d:\*.* /s/e/f e:\   (note this is example paths - you have to put paths to actual DVD content)

*Note - if diskpart wont start- go to services and start virtual disk service*

If both the optical drive and the USB port is screwed you can try and remove the oprical drive and install Windows from a SATA HDD. if that doesn't work it's probably a problem with the HDD in the laptop.

Other way is to get hold of Linux/Ubuntu OS to work from USB stick. There are propably few test/benchmark programs for Linux OS soo you could test the hardware that way also.
