What are people's opinions on it and does anyone have any advice to improve it? I am considering buying a second-hand GTX 970 in order to save some money.

I am also considering rack mounting it as I have a 42U rack that needs filling.

My budget would preferably be under £750 and my goal is to have a machine to enable me to play the majority of all modern games at approx. 60fps at 1440p with good prospects for upgrading in the future.

get a used 390x because there going to drop when the 1070 arrives :)

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Spoiler

Hold up, only an SSD? No mass storage?

I would not recommend getting a 120GB SSD.
I have a 128GB SSD and after a complete install, I'm sitting at -50Gbs.
That's hardly enough room for any AAA game let alone anything at all.

[CPU: 4.7ghz I5 6600k] [MBAsus Z170 Pro G] [RAM: G.Skill 2400 16GB(2x8)]

[GPU: MSI Twin Frozr GTX 970] [PSU: XFX Pro 850W] [Cooler: Hyper 212 Evo]
[Storage: 500GB WD HDD / 128GB SanDisk SSD ] [Case: DeepCool Tessaract]

[Keyboard: AZIO MGK1] [Mouse: Logitech G303] [Monitor: 2 x Acer 23" 1080p IPS]

Ok thanks for the advice. Is it worth initially not running an SSD and just running a 1tb drive and then upgrading later possibly to an m.2?

I think getting a HDD now and an SSD later is a better option if you can't swing both.
SSD's are extremely nice to have but aren't what I'd consider a "necessity."

Nah, getting an SSD now means you don't have to go through a cloning/reinstall mess ever.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

True, but that usually it means you have room for like 1 game after windows.

You could save the money you would have spent on that one game on a 1 TB HDD though. Just wait to play your games man, chill :P

What I might do in OP's situation is buy one or two less case fans for now and get a 240GB SSD like an SP550 for around $50 USD, that way he/she can actually hold off on buying a HDD and can play a couple games for the time being.

I am not really bothered by cloning and reinstalling so I think a HDD may be the way to go

You would have to re-download all of your games. All of them. Every program you had installed would have to be reinstalled. Several gigabytes of Windows updates would need to be done over. I would highly recommend holding off on getting a hard drive for now. You literally can plug one in and go with a hard drive later rather than spend an entire day getting your PC back to where it was prior by getting an SSD later. Trust me, I've done my fair share of OS reinstalls and having one SSD to start with will save you a lot of time.

Thank you for the suggestions. I may swap out the SSD for a HDD. Also have you got any suggestions for a motherboard with supports m.2 as that will probably be my first upgrade

My comment was between the 120gb SSD and the 1TB drive.
If he'll move up to the 250gb SSD now, I would go that route as well.
Simple math gives him ~ 180gb which is plenty for two/three large games a host of smaller ones..
