You change your product key in Settings > Update & Security > Activation.

Once that's done, you will have Windows 10 pro. That's all there is to it. Or you can click the "Go To Store" button in the activation tab to buy Windows 10 Pro on the Windows Store.

If you have a windows 7/8/8.1 Pro/Ultimate key available, you can also "update" to Windows 10 Pro without re-installing or having to buy Windows 10 Pro by itself, BUT, first you will need to enter the default Windows 10 pro key

After which it will "update" your edition to windows 10 pro, but not activated(obviously...). From there you will be able to enter your Windows 7/8.1 Pro key and it will activate. But again, this is ONLY if you don't have a Windows 10 pro key and have a Windows 7/8.1 Pro key.

No need to reinstall, changing the key just adds the missing features. It's been like this since Vista. Great time saver.
