Nothing like a new naming scheme to confuse people and make old products/chips sound new (aka cooler). Can't wait till they just switch to code names instead of numbers <_<

I roll with sigs off so I have no idea what you're advertising.

This is NOT the signature you are looking for.

I feel AMD may be shooting itself in the foot a little bit with the pricing.

Say the R9-290X comes in at the rumored $599.  Since the R9-280X is essentially a rebranded 7970, wouldn't two of those in CrossFire easily outclass a single R9-290X?  For the same exact price...

The plot thickens.

wait one sec a 7970 gets about 7000 in 3D mark Firestrike. The R9-280X gets about the same according to the graph. Does this mean that it will be better to buy a 7970? as it will probably be cheaper??

don't forget this mysterious R9 290 without the x, we have no details on that other than the on board audio solution from this slide and that it was left out of the original graph. too close in performance to r9 290x perhaps, or maybe the "x" is this gen's gHz edition.. image from pcper live blog, thanks ryan

That R7-250 and 260X looks like it can be awesome for a tiny HTPC and still deliver some juice for games.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

How does the R7 260X compare to a 6870 (I think it is a rebranded 7870)?

X is the exact same core as the 7870.

Well, a GTX 770 is essentially a GTX 680, but GTX 680s are still more expensive.  I assume the same will happen here.  7970s probably won't drop far below $320 without sale prices and rebates.

AMD: R9 290X Will Be "Much Faster Than Titan in Battlefield 4"
Posted 09/25/2013 at 9:05pm | by Jimmy Thang

The red team says that with Mantel, its new flagship GPU will “ridicule” the GeForce Titan With AMD unveiling its new series of GPUs, many gamers want to know how well it performs, namely against Nvidia’s flagship GeForce GTX Titan graphics card.

We had a chance to sit down with AMD Product Manager Devon Nekechuck to see how AMD’s new top dog R9 290X stacks up against the green team’s best single-GPU offering. According to Nekechuck, even though the R9 290X uses a 438 square mm die, which is significantly smaller than the Titan’s 550 sq. mm GK110 offering, it “will definitely compete with the GTX 780 and Titan.” When we asked what this means in real-world terms, he stated, “with Battlefield 4 running with Mantel (AMD’s new graphics API), the card will be able to ‘ridicule’ the Titan in terms of performance.”

Is the R9 290X the Titan killer? AMD seems to think so.

When we asked him what he meant by “ridicule,” he simply stated that it will run Battlefield 4 “much faster than the Titan.” Again, this is provided that you run the game using AMD's Mantel API, which is set to launch in December.

While no pricing has been announced for AMD's high-end GPU just yet, It is worth mentioning that Nekechuck did confirm to us that the company does not plan to release single-GPU cards in the $1,000 price range because AMD thinks that is such a small, niche market. When you consider that the GeForce Titan runs for one grand, it’s safe to assume that it will be a fair bit cheaper than $1K. Rumors abound the event are that the R9 290X will retail at around the 780 price point, which currently hovers around $650. May we see Titan+ performance for less than 780 price from AMD? Only time will tell.

okay this AMD GPU is great, people are like OMG Nvidia just got their asses kicked, but they are comparing it to the 700 series, this is meant to be compared to the new Maxwell nvidia series coming out next year. however, this GPU is bought as soon as it comes out :D. the R9 290X that is

  • Radeon R9 and R7 series coming later this year, R9 is enthusiast-class while R7 is for performance users who want a better price/performance ratio

R9 290X - 4GB GDDR5, around 3000 stream processors, 512-bit memory bus, pricing unknown. AMD is still secretive about sharing exact details with the general public.

R9 280X - 3GB GDDR5, $299, > 6800 in Firestrike  -  Pretty much a 670 - ( 6300) in fire strike

R9 270X, 2GB GDDR5, $199, > 5500 Firestrike

R7 260X - 2GB GDDR5, $139, > 3700 in Firestrike

R7 250- 1GB GDDR5, < $89, > 2000 in 3DMark Firestrike

Seeing the performance increase and price increase compared to those lower end cards I find it hard to believe that the R9-290x will cost $650. but it does start reaching the point where the performance per dollar graph starts leveling out.
