Hey there

My sister wants a gaming pc, but she can only spend up to $500 on it. However, I'm not great at making budget builds.

She is NOT a hardcore gamer. The most demanding game she might play I\is ARK : Survival Evolved on medium-ish.

She wont care about 60FPS. As long as it is about 30FPS she will be happy.

Send me your suggested PCPartPicker list (don't need PSU or Case recommendations)

HAS to be a MicroATX board

Thanks

Callum

Good build though an 860k would be a better price to performance cpu

Unsure what power supply to pick?

Check out my HTPC build.

I would pick the 860K, if I hadn't known the 845 actually improves single threaded performance a bit. ;)

Since she doesn't play particularly demanding games, I took a step back on the GPU and upgraded the CPU to the core i3 6100, which actually has better single-core performance than the 6700 (please correct me if I'm wrong). That being said, turn down one or two of the right settings, and a 380 will have no problem running games at 1080p.

I also stuck with a black-and-white colour scheme, barring the blue sticker on the Stock Intel heatsink- which you can just stick a circular piece of white paper over.

As all lists should unless stated otherwise, this includes windows.

Glad to see more people are recommending the 845. Although my personal pick at the low-end is the Pentium G4400, the excavator cores on the Athlon x4 845 make it a viable enough option. Furthermore, it comes with a better stock cooler and actually has overclocking capabilities through base-clock overclocking. 'Tis a solid recommendation.

Need an OS?

For the Best builds and Price lists here is a world where many points of the price have been predefined already for your convenience!

The Xeon E3 1231 V3 IS BETTER Than the Core i5 4690K and a Significantly better value for the non-overclockers or value shoppers.

The OS is like a kind food, Try it before saying if you like it or don't.

single-core no, due to hyperthreading

single thread probably not either, due to lower clock speed and lower cache while having the same architecture

My mistake- I was looking at the 'Glitch' BCLK benchmarks. The Core i3 6100 at 4.5 GHz apparently gives everything a run for its money. It's a shame Intel had to lock out the feature, but I understand why.
