So I don't want any flame war started here, I want to make that clear. So as everyone down here I watched the Nvidia Stream, can't help but fell like it's a E3 game demo all over again, but whatever that's not what I'm here for. I want to know what you guys think this first gen of 16nm cards will look like? As of right now it seems Nvidia is aiming for high end users, which is not everyone that's for sure, while AMD seems to want to make VR available for everyone, which I can't help but cringe when I hear them claim their going to enlarge the market.

I personally think that, like this previous gen, Nvidia will dominate the high end of the Spectrum will AMD flourished in the lower and middle end. In the last few months we might get a comeback from AMD, like the situation with the gtx 970/r9 290. Overall I think this gen is the start of AMD's comeback, I'm predicting a market share percentage of 70-75% for Nvidia and 25-30% for AMD, thought that might be a bit optimistic.

So, what are your predictions guys? Don't be afraid to explain why you feel the way you do, even if it's just bad experiences with one side over the other.

my predictions: the summer's getting more and more interesting. I personally wouldn't make any predictions about "who will win the fight" because I haven't heard much about polaris except it will crush performance per watt. I honestly want nvidia to drop prices (because it is more efficient to render on nvidia cards than amd) and I want to see that amd crushes kinda the new geforce cards for lower price.

meh, dont know what AMD is trying to offer but if 490X's performance is like a 980Ti (based on rumours), and that the 1070 is better than the 980(Ti?) (based on nvidia's own statement), i think AMD is marketing towards x60 and x50 tier users then

but i really hope AMD get their sht together, need more competition so nerve gear can be completed sooner

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

I just wish for the competition to be back at like 45% vs 55%, that were the days

I wouldn't buy amd either because of rendering, but I really would like them to see as a competitor again

I hope top end Polaris 10 will best the GTX 1070,  but not the GTX 1080 due to GDDR5X.

It probably won't, AMD is aiming for something around 200-100 dollars. But if they can get pretty close to it and beat Nvidia in the low end for this year it will be great. They will compete with the high end early next year.

The 200-100 mark is for Polaris 11, the smaller chip. Glad to see more performance for less money.

It feels like a return to the main strategies of both companies now they have got off being stuck at 28nm which produced a special case in the market. AMD historically targets mid range volume market first and treated the high end only with crossfire. Nvidia on the other hand starts with upper mid range, then fills in the mid tier and lower end and also releases halo maximum size silicon chips sometime later once the process improves. Interestingly AMD intends to release its high end card later as well, historically they didn't do that but it is consistent with what they did at 28nm but again they are probably aiming a little lower than Nvidia again.

Looks historically bang on actually, been seeing this ever since Nvidia entered the PC 3D market.

I love how even I forgot to talk about their new CPU architecture, like nobody expects a comeback from AMD in that derportment hahaha

I definitely expect Zen to make a comeback. BETTER CPUs YEAAAAA! It's just that the OP didn't mention it.

OP is me man, that's why I said "I", not like I care anyway, nobody even mentionned Zen. I don't expect AMD to come back into CPU this gen, not after the failure that is their current architecture. I mean for the high end market of course.

Zen is completely different from Bulldozer, and Bulldozer was disastrous. AMD isn't full of idiots. A few bad apples don't ruin the bunch.

I think 180w TDP for a card that appears to be at least 20% faster than a Titan X is pretty fucking amazing. I don't think AMD's offerings are going to be much better in the power department than nvidia's.

I just thought about the demo on some booth earlier this year when the new polaris card scored amzing fps at insanely low power consumption. But it is true, 180W is a very good value

meh, not much hype for zen since i doubt they can compete with skylake

maybe they'll be a great value cpu? :P
