FBI could hack anonymous computers, regardless of their physical location.

if you dont like it in the US you are free to move or protest (which will probably only end up with you in jail), i just live how i live, if you think they dont spy on us already you live under a rock. this is just publicly saying the the FBI can/does spy on people.  they can do whatever they want and if we dont like it we can protest and cry all we want and then they just cover up what they do and dont make it public. we never win they just make us think we do.

"I'm don't care if innocent people may suffer because I'm not important and apathetic and therefore not a target. It has no effect on me."

and

"It's already bad might as well let it happen."

Great philosophy. I take it you just want to be left alone. Well so did the vast majority of those in the holocaust, pretty much every ethnic cleansing, every farmer in a war zone, the poor bastards during the Red Scare 1/2, etc.. Welcome to Earth, where it only takes one person to ruin the lives of millions of people who want to be left alone if the millions let them.

You want to know why the U.S. never had a holocaust/mass genocide (excluding acts against Indians... but that's a different conversation)? Because there were always good people ready to help those who needed it despite assholes trying their damnedest (KKK for ex.). Its those people who gave us all the good in society today. If it weren't for privacy, free speech, ability to protest, etc. they would never have had the tools to do it. While you may not be an activist, journalist, etc. you still have a responsibility (like every other citizen of any democracy ever) to stick by the basic human principles I outlined. If we want the good, we have to stand against the bad.

"Normandy" i7 4790K - GTX 970 - Phantom 410 (Gun metal) - Z97 Extreme4 (asrock) - 128GB Crucial SSD - 1TB WD HDD - H60 Refurb. - 7 case fans | G710+ Keyboard, G230 Headset, Acer GN246HL Monitor.

Quick thoughts on system: I7 is extremely quick and I'm glad I spent the extra for hyper-threading. I regret my decision to get the GTX 970, it has horrible coil whine. There isn't any excuse for this terrible whine I and others are having. I HIGHLY recommend a 144hz monitor. Future Improvements/upgrades: Rubber fan mounts, basic speakers, more ram (for a total of 16gb), replace GPU.

144hz is love. 144hz is life. I like to submit unfinished posts then do about 20 edits. I like the Night Theme too.

Wrong again.  Protesting can empower an individual to change their mind.  Amazing fact:  congress and the senate are full of individuals.  Protests can also raise public awareness.

I guess living in the USA has done something to you.  Do you really have no understanding what civil disobedience accomplishes in other parts of the world?  Do you think it is just a bunch of bums and SJWs running around with signs?

Maybe you should pack up and leave.  See the world, the real one.  The one that includes more than just you.

you just think what they want you to think, you think they change when they just hide it after eveyone throws a fit, do you think nike got rid off all its sweatshops because people protested that?

This reason is why this is bad.

The US does not allow unwarranted searches of private property. A hack would be considered an unwarranted search, I will grab some popcorn and wait for it to happen and then see how fast the ACLU takes on a case with the FBI after the first hack. . . . .

I think you misinterpreted the word "if" in my previous statement.  Why are trying to defend the wrong idea so adamantly?  Why do you care so much to say:  I don't care?

Just little ol' me, sitting back here with the rest of the "we told you so" club, and our crazy tinfoil hats.

But by all means, please keep telling us how you have nothing to hide.

Not here you don't.  We could try to prove you wrong as some of us know better, but better to leave you to your life and maybe you will learn enough to broaden your perspective a little.

You should not defend being wrong.  You argue some weak points to justify your frame of mind in this issue.  This is not an episode of NCIS, the government authority is chalked full of self serving idiots... some are even elected into their position.  If you as an individual don't see your place in the political sphere of your own country, either:

1.  You have failed yourself.

2.  Your community has failed you.

3.  Your community is dumb/being lied to.

4.  All of the above.

im not political at all, im a businessman i've been raised to know how to make money not how to make the government change what they want to do becase i dont like it, i dont see as problem in it i guess if you're a child porn harboring person then yeah i can see why you dont like it, other then that why should i care if i have nothing illegal?

The problem with “having nothing to hide” is that you haven’t the slightest clue what they may be looking for. By silently enabling a surveillance state through mindless mantras like that, you’re setting the stage for a police state to be brought about.

Have you ever read the novel 1984?

i have not, but  for me i dont see what they could find. unless they are looking for people who get mad and lose their temper when their business partner makes them lose 15k and cusses them out, thats all they would have on me. but swearing is not illegal :P  i think they have worse things to look for and id be on the bottom of the list. hell i dont even illegal download music becase spotify is a thing xD

So everyone here that does not like this expansion of FBI accessibility to private citizen's lives, is storing child porn on their HDDs... okay.

Like I said weak arguments.

Others are talking about murder, rape, enslavement... you talk about fucking running shoes.xD

It's not about whether they are physically capable of doing it, but rather if they are allowed to. Especially if it involves tapping data from other countries that did not give them permission to. In theory, law enforcement follows a lead, isolates a few suspects, then gets a warrant to search their homes and data if deemed necessary. What is happening now is that they search all the data forever and then try to find anything that can justify an investigation inside it. This not only is ridiculous from a privacy (and moral) standpoint, it also distracts law enforcement across thousands of tiny infractions that make the real threats more difficult to identify.

By the way, have you ever seen the movie "Minority report"? If you haven't, go watch it. It shows pretty well what could become of a society that condemns based on suspicion rather than on evidence, and who is to distinguish the trolls and backseat "extremists" from the actual dangerous people?

It would suck if countries began isolating themselves by unplugging their populations from the world wide web. Kind of like North Korea has it I think. All it takes is some bad people doing things they really shouldn't  be doing to ruin the experience for everyone else. I definitely hope what we have isn't something that would be unique in history as a time when earth was connected then forced into darkness and withdrawing in fear or suspicion of others.

@GreezyJeezy I think you fail to realize that just because you don't have anything to hide right now, doesn't mean you won't in the future. Right now you can do, read, watch, etcc... whatever you want. That's not the case in police-states (think communist china/soviet russia) -- places where if you say the wrong thing you'll be sent to some gulag in bumblefuck Siberia.

If the government is completely honest and only has honest intentions, then the FBI having complete access to everybody and everything wouldn't be a problem. However, that's not exactly the case.

Hell, I wouldn't even let a police officer look in the trunk of my car (even though it's literally empty) for the simple reason that it isn't unheard of for police officers to plant drugs with the intention of getting paid off to not report you. By happily giving the FBI complete and unrestricted access you put yourself into a similar position where you become vulnerable to those who have power around you.

the thing is it won't get like that, well it could but thats what the US has been fighting against for so long i highly doubt it would get like that, you guys just go to the worst case scenario you dont think realistically in this time, yeah in a few decades when there is new people in government maybe, they could be paving the path to that for there kids to fulfil it but if that happens like a martial law type deal it won't be for awhile and ill get my ass out of here as soon as i can and i easily could. yes i get they are not doing it for waht they say they will abuse it most likely but even then i personally should still be fine, i dont even like to talk about how much money i have none the less talk shit about a ruler of a country.

but this could all be becase i come from a small town where we dont have crooked cops, yes they might pull you over for speeding by 1 mile per hours in some places but they dont plant drugs or anything like that, most of the time if you have weed on you they just take it and give you a ticket. (depending on the amount)

So basically you're okay with this, because you don't mind not being able to speak your mind to other people and because if things get bad you're perfectly okay with just moving to another country........

And, of course, you do realize that by not being allowed to speak your mind a lot of controversial stories will never hit the news and the news you'll be getting will be JUST what the government wants you to know about and not what's actually going on....

Is it not easier to disagree with something like this rather than just accepting it and deciding to leave if it turns out to become abused? And I don't mean that you have to fight back or protest against a decision like this...but you also don't have to be happy about it either and accept it as being okay -- which is what you're doing here. This news sounds terrible to me, but I'm not going to do anything about it.
