+1 on info. this question is as vague as asking what condiment is good on a hotdog. what's a good car that runs on gas. so many answers that vary on tastes, desires, use and all the other X factors.

Budget:

What types of games do you play? (MMO, MOBA, FPS):

What genres of music do you listen to? (Hip Hop, Classical, Dubstep, House etc.):

Is bass important? (1-10):

Is noise isolation important? (noise around you):

heres another thread with a similar request. there are some suggestions you can look into.

I don't know... but I have my eyes on the Sennheiser RS 170. There are the open version, model 180, if you don't want the close model.

In my book, good headphone or speakers should be able to produce all frequencies well, where you should not have "genre optimize" headphones/speakers.

"jack of all trades master of none"

That has nothing to do.. as the headphones/speaker does 1 thing.

Always remember larger drivers always have more range 50mm imho is a must. After that its all about preference. Some have better lows some have better full range. The largest importance in my mind is comfort and that is only decided by actually wearing them.

With no budget detailed, my recommendation would be the sennheiser hd 650s. Retail for $500, but its pretty easy to find em on sale for around 4, sometimes as low as 350. Hd650s are a pretty nice match, able to show the clarity of the stx, and the stx goes well with the cans, providing plenty of power with the built in amp.

Now obviously there are setups on both sides that can make a bit more out of the 650s and the stx, but not without breaking the bank.

P.s. this is my personal setup.

This may be the case at the mid-range, but high-end headphones are often no better or worse than each other; just different. This is due to the fact that they are often engineered to a specific purpose, like how Beats are made to have crystal clear bass, but their highs are pretty average. This will be the case with any pair of Beats, even the super high end ones which cost a tonne. As such, it's not really possible to produce all frequencies SUPER well, but reference headphones do a pretty good job of staying clear and balanced. It just depends what he wants.

I'd go with something open-back if your situation allows for it. Entry level, go Sennheiser HD 558s or Beyerdynamic DT 990s. Could spend the extra and go for the Sennheiser HD 600/650, but it depends on your budget and how serious you are about it.

Trolling would require him to whip the forum up into a massive argument over his thread. Half of the threads on the board are "Should I buy an Essence STX sound card?" and "What headphones go good with said Essence STX?" At best, it's just copypasta.

btw the answer to those questions are "no, if you're actually asking" and "anything with an impedance greater than 80 ohms"

"Pardon my French but this is just about the most ignorant blanket statement I've ever read. And though this is the internet, I'm not even exaggerating."

Beats are high end headphones? OMG These are total garbage. I won't pay more than 60$ for them. They are crap, super bass-y headphones, with no mid-range or treble, and they are marketed at people who have never heard anything better than the dollar shop iPhone/iPod headphones, and they go how amazing they are, clearly have not heard anything better.

And you would think that you have a clear separation on the bass, at least... i mean for 300$+ you better have something.. ope a mess, like 60$ headphones.

Not meaning to have a go it just seems posting the same question that many have asked with no personal information about his circumstances and then not posting anything at all to follow up just seems a bit weird.
