Hello, I'm looking for an ultra cheap gaming pc. After seeing Linus's build on this topic, I thought to make a mock build. My budget is around 175-250 usd.

  • Intel p/n CPU-S5000SL (A) Dual Xeon CPU LGA771 Server Motherboard E11025-302 ($25)

  • (2x) Intel Xeon E5420 2.5 GHz 12MB 1333MHz SLBBL LGA771 CPU ($25)
  • EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 ($85)
  • Western Digital Caviar Blue 320GB ($25)
  • 8GB (2X4GB) DDR2 MEMORY RAM PC2-5300 ECC FULLY BUFFERED FBDIMM DIMM($15)

  • (2x) Rosewill RCX-Z300 ($35)
  • LOGISYS Computer PS550ABK ($25)
How well will this pc perfrom in current games and future games? Also, are all of these components compatible?

I'd imagine your GPU will the the bottleneck in games.

I'd expect 30-60 FPS at medium to low settings in modern AAA games at 1080p

Based on this page: http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-580/performance

i7 4790k | MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition | G.Skill Ripjaws X 16 GB | Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB | 2x Seagate Barracuda 2TB | MSI GTX 970 Twin Frozr V | Fractal Design R4 | EVGA 650W

A gaming PC for your budget: $800 - $1000 - $1500 - $1800 - $2600 - $9001

Start with PCPartPicker so it's a bit more organized please.

Not terrible, although quite honestly I wouldn't bother unless you're doing this as a hobby project or something. No way this could be used in a real world scenario. Save up a bit more ($500?)

Personally, my current rig (cost me 170 AUD) is 3 dual opteron 2218 servers, daisychained each with 14 gb ram. I use a radeon 6950 in each one and I get well above 80 fps on high on most next gen games

If you can do something like that it will cost you about $130 USD using secondhand parts. I would suggest that if you have the know-how, go for it

So what's your budget and country?

The used server stuff is nice for like a fun secondary build, but eh. Also just get a 360 for like $100

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?
