Should i keep my 4790k locked at 4.0ghz?

My temps have been way too high with 4.4 at stock. i know i should delid, but i cant. i dont have the nerve. so can i just change the multiplier to 4.0 and keep everything else auto including keeping the voltage on auto?

how high is high? with the kraken x61?

maybe its time to clean the system and re-apply thermal paste?

or maybe the AIO is failing

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

You can disable Intel turbo boost on your motherboard instead of change the multiplier to 40, because once you disable Intel turbo boost, your i7 4790k will run 4GHz instead of 4.4GHz.

What are your temps?? You have an excellent cooler you should be able to push 4.8 GHz easily.

gaming? idle? synthetic test?

70c is a good temp while under load, if you expect lower temps you'll have to go custom watercooling, phase change, or LN2 `-`

Doesn't seem that bad to me. Mine hits 75 degrees at 4.6 GHz on air, so yours should still be somewhat lower than that. If you want to set it back to factory defaults, set everything as auto in the bios (multiplier, voltage, etc) or use load optimized defaults (but that might change some other settings so be careful).

Like others said, maybe reapply thermal paste and see if temps improve.

No lol you should be getting better temperatures with liquid cooling.

I would try a change of thermal paste of good quality. Something like Gelid GC-Extreme. And see how that goes.

Your temps should be better than that at 4.4ghz.

70 is OK when stress testing/gaming. and deliding (as linus showed in a video) is basically pointless.

70c is totally safe, if not a bit warm for your settings.

Do you have the top cover on? That case doesn't look like it allows much exhaust if you don't remove that. You'd probably do a lot better with an air cooler if you leave the top on.

70c is fine, you can try lower the volts. i only use 1.15 for 4.5GHz

Ryzen 7 5800X3D, Corsair H105, Gigabyte x570 Aorus Elite, Corsair Vengeance 32GB 3600MHz, EVGA RTX 3070Ti FTW3, Samsung 850 Pro / WD SN850 / OCZ Trion 150

ASUS MG279Q, Corsair Carbide 275R
