Im helping my friend build a computer that he can play some mid cpu intensive games. He has a budget of $300ish. What should i get. Should i try and get an intel cpu or go to amd an get a cheaper one?

Is that a budget just for the CPU?

Needs money for car parts :P

Is that budget for the whole PC or just for the CPU?

Gaming - Ryzen 5800X3D | 64GB 3200mhz  MSI 6900 XT Mini-ITX SFF Build

Home Server (Unraid OS) - Ryzen 5950x | 128GB ECC 3200mhz |  EVGA 1060 6GB | 6TB SSD Cache [3x2TB] 66TB HDD [11x6TB]

depends of what do you have to buy with 300$, and if you want it brand new or used,  if you need everything , so hdd, psu, case, ram, brand new the better choice can be a good APU, with a dual channel 2133mhz ram, a low end GPU is worst than the APU gpu.

or you can buy used parts, but be sure to buy a good PSU, old cpus and gpus are cheap, but they use a lot of power.
