*gtx660m 2gb ddr5 / i7 3610qm / 8gb ram / 1tb hdd

*gtx 950m 2gb ddr3 / intel i3 4100m 2.5ghz / 2x 4gb ddr3 / 1tb wd blue hdd

*amd hd 6970 / i7 2670qm 3.1ghz / 16gb ddr3 / 1tb hdd

would it be cheaper change the gpu or processor to change the i3 to i7 or the gtx 660 to gtx 950/960m?

GPUs in laptops are non upgradable, they are sautered to the

motherboard. I can't upgrade my Clevo w650sz GPU because it's sautered to mobo. So easiest thing to upgrade is CPU

not true, they could be MXM cards where you can change them...

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

But they could be non-mxm. And that would make for a bad day.

They probably are soldered onto the motherboard but I'm just stating the fact how it's not exactly true and you can get laptop's with interchangeable GPUs

Personally, I'd go for the 660M/i7 combo - the i3 4100M is not what I'd call top-class performance.

This might be too expensive but you could upgrade the i3

True - but it depends if the laptop can handle the extra heat of an i5 or i7

Well the i3 apparently uses the G3 socket where you can change it up to a  i7-4940MX...

two of them are not changeable i just checked..the gtx950 and gtx 660 arent but the amd i7 is upgradable and has a 17" screen.

the amd gpu is changable for a amd 7970 or gtx 680m iv found so far but think can also fit a 960/970m all the gou have to be clevo and flashed..whatever that means

Thought CPU was upgradable.

No. The new series use soldered mobile CPUs. The only series where you can upgrade the CPU are the desktop CPU ones.

deciced to go for either a y50 70 lenovo gtx 960m i7 or asus rog i7 gtx960m for same money

If you go for a Y50 - you need to do 2 things

1 - get an SSD
2 - loosen the hinges when you buy it (it's a fairly easy thing to do)

I'm pretty sure your GPU is an iGPU only. You don't even have a discrete GPU.

Also, laptop GPUs are upgrade-able. It depends on if you have MXM socketed GPUs or not. Cheaper laptops will not. Thinner laptops will not. Sacrifice weight, thickness and price paid and you'll get a soldered GPU, or an iGPU-only solution. Pay more, get a thicker notebook that weighs more, and you get socketed stuff.

All mobile CPUs are soldered. The last time there was a socketed mobile CPU was in early 2014. Assume all 965Ms are soldered, and I can guarantee all 960Ms, 860Ms (that still sell), 950Ms, and anything below it, are soldered.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.
