So i'm planning to build a new rig.

I am looking at a terabyte or so of storage requirement,

The processor should be somewhere around the i5 6600

so will putting an SSD in there really have a great impact ?

And if yes. Which one should I get ?

I would like using the extra money that an SSD takes up on something else, maybe a better GPU

I plan to use this for gaming.

Are you sure though ? Here in India , the SSD costs a fortune

IMO its worth it. They are pricy everywhere but they are such a big boost in performance and reliability.

Its automatic, just press this button!

If you can't fit it into your budget, then that's a separate issue. But the answer to your question was yes… at least in some tasks, an SSD can be a massive difference.

It's not like it won't fit into my budget, just wanted to make sure it's a good choice :)

SSDs tend to be the most notable upgrade you can give to a system of any caliber, unless they don't have SATA. :P

To give you an idea:

Note: This is with a legacy BIOS, not the much faster booting UEFI.

Main rig: Intel i7 6700K @ 4 Ghz with Silverstone Argon AR06 + Noctua NF-A9x14 PWM, Asus Z170I Pro Gaming, 2 x 8 GiB Corsair LPX Red @ 2.133 Mhz, MSI GTX 1080 Founders Edition, 2 x Samsung 850 Evo 500 GB, Corsair SF600, Silverstone Raven RVZ02 (no window version).

For on the road: MSI GE72 2QC Apache with 16 GiB RAM upgrade.

SSD is great for you operating system and makes a huge everyday impact. I could not go back. Samsung 850 evo is nice because it has Rapidmode in their magician software that allows unused rams as additional cache for your system.

i switched from mechanical hard disk to an SSD 2~3 years ago

cant live without one now

that said, if dropping an ssd means a better gpu/cpu, choose a better gpu/cpu `-`

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

how do you figure? The CPU and GPU are much faster than any SSD. Why would he need a better CPU or GPU because of SSD?

I think he means if having to choose to upgrading to an SSD or buying a better CPU/GPU.

i mean if he have to drop his gpu from a 390 to a 380 just to get an ssd, dont do it

Jeebus... Here a Samsung 850 Evo 500 GB costs €146,41 at the moment... And here I thought that stuff was cheaper anywhere else but here... :/
