Will normal DDR3 memory be supported by Skylake? I know it's kind of a dumb question, but on the page for the i3 6100 I'm considering for a new build it states support for DDR4 and DDR3L. Are DDR3 and DDR3L the same, or what's the difference, and will that CPU support either? Thanks.

No, ddr3l is low voltage ddr3. Skylake doesn't support normal ddr3

That's strange, PCPartpicker doesn't come up with any incompatability warnings for the build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/w6KX99

That's because the motherboard supports regular DDR3. And in fact, it it's properly configured, you can run DDR3 just fine... but only IF it's properly set up.

Still, if you are buying Skylake with DDR3, you are doing it wrong. If you plan on sticking to DDR3 for whatever reason, get a Haswell CPU. If you really want Skylake, then bite the bullet and get DDR4 modules. End of story.

Relying on a websites compatibility function isn't seriously recommended. It's not a human physically checking if it fits and runs it's a computer running code and probably checking the compatibility labeled for the board compared against the type of memory. In short, don't rely on a website to tell you what's compatible. Sometimes you have to use your own judgment and do research. Which is probably how you ended up here.
