Hey guys! First time on this forum, and I figured id ask if the CPU I have chosen would be a nice fit to my gpu (since i'm getting a pretty big bottleneck as of now). Right now I have the xfx r9 390, and I was planning on getting a i5 6600k. Lastly, I wanted to ask if the 6600k is perfectly fine with DDR3 1600 ram. Thanks

I'm pretty sure the chipset Skylake uses supports both DDR3 and 4. So it would depend on the motherboard as to which type is supported.

the 6600k is great, and if you dont plan to overclock, other skylake chipsets use ddr3 instead of ddr4 http://wccftech.com/skylake-does-not-support-ddr3-damage-ddr3l-only/

No 6600k is not ok with DDR3

Your either going to have to get DDR4 or just get something like a 4690k

Your going to have to upgrade your motherboard as well, not every cpu works globally with any motherboard

What motherboard do you have now, like what socket is it?

Well I was basically looking for a budget style board that suits my needs, so here it is: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157674&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-PCPartPicker,%20LLC-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID= The mobo supposedly supports ddr3 at my clockspeed. Currently I have this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157468 As you can tell ill obviously need a new board

Would you say that the 4690k is much worse than the 6600k? Enough to warrant me to buy new ddr4 sticks just to have the 6600k?

Alright, I will more than likely just look at mobos that support that different socket and go with the 4690k as I wont have to worry with ddr3 not being supported
