Gaming PC Around $1000

Zipherean

Hey guys,

I'm helping my friends brother build a new micro atx gaming computer. Here's the parts list.  http://pcpartpicker.com/p/wZ4nsY . The only things I don't plan on changing are the case and keyboard/mouse combo. Everything else is subject to change. I was wondering if I could get some help picking out components. I'm trying to keep at around $1000 or less. Thank you for your help.

Regards,

Zipherean

1. Get windows from Kinguin for $30

2. No need to get thermal paste (especially $2 worth) there is some with the CPU cooler.

3.The general consensus is that an r9 390 is preferrable to a 970, although I picked one over the 390 and have had no issues in 1080p, but the 390 should be more "futureproof"

4. Change that PSU, The one linked is overkill but its an amazing deal ($30 mail in rebate)

Get a larger SSD, 128gb will fill up instantly, no need for M.2 this SATA one is perfect.

5. If you can afford it go with a better monitor:

Hey guys,

IF you're going to buy windows don't buy an OEM key as they only work once, and IF you're going to buy windows you'll probably want to avoid the grey market as those keys can be rejected at any time

What kind of games? As it's probably better if you're just gaming to get a better display like this 144hz 1080p Free-sync display, in any case a 390 would be a better choice than a 970

Also why aren't you buying a better case?

You don't need that thermal paste or those fans, if you want more fans buy a 120mm fan 4 pack like this, this one includes molex on the fans

That PSU is going to be fairly sub par compared to something like in this build

and there's no point in buying an M.2 drive that isn't NVME

you probably don't need 16gbs of RAM

and MSI makes probably the best budget 1151 motherboards as they all seem to have really solid power delivery and include USB 3.1 support

Thanks guys. Another question I had is if the sata cables for storage will come with the drives. He really liked the case so he wanted to stick to that one. He's gonna be playing mostly new triple A games. Looking for something that would run 1080p at 144hz well.

Hey guys,

I took what you guys had to say and modified my list a lot. How does this look? http://pcpartpicker.com/p/4XL9qs. The monitor isn't that much of concern I'll probably be getting an old monitor from one of my friends. The one online is just roughly how much I'm gonna have to pay him for the old one. I'm looking to keep the cost around $1000 including the monitor and keyboard/mouse. The main focus is something that's future-proof. Thank your for your help.

Well that's a really low end case that will be a total bitch to work in, the Tesseract is a pretty solid budget case.

Sata cables come with the motherboard, you usually get 2 of them

You could probably live without the cooler and with 8gbs of RAM

but seriously get a better display man, like the 1080p 144hz Free-sync display in my build or at least a 1080p IPS display

Should also go for this power supply, it's gold rated,550W from seasonic, and semi-modular at 70 bucks, or there's an EVGA GQ 650W gold rated PSU you can find should still be about 70 bucks

EVGA one

and as I said before you don't want OEM windows if you're going to buy windows
