i am building a system with a 6700k, r9 fury x, 8gb 2400 ram, 750gb sshd, and gigabyte z170x mb. would a 750w thermaltake psu be enough to give both the cpu and gpu a good overclock without any issue? would i be able too expand or upgrade in the future without any issues?

you could put the hardware in pcpartpicker. it does a OK job at calculating the expected power draw.

in a normal build, nah

it thermal throttles on stock coolers

@gameboy3800, i recommend the EVGA P2 650W for your setup :D

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

The EVGA P2 is ridiculously expensive and not really any better than a G2 which is just slightly less efficient.

750W is plenty but check the PSU whitelist in my signature. If that Thermaltake isn't in there then I'd get a different PSU.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

You're fine at 750.

Out of curiosity, by 'sshd' do you mean hybrid drive or solid state?

Those are just normal hard drives with a massive solid-state cache, you know?

I think there might be a way to partition the os to the cache if it is large enough.

Occasionally, though, one has a sale or rebate while the other doesn't. Case in point, on Newegg right now the G2 is $99.99 while the P2 is marked down $10 to $109.99 with an additional $20 rebate offered.

WD does have a true hybrid drive called the WD Black2. it is a 120gb ssd and 1tb hdd in a single 2.5inch format.

Doesn't have overheating protection which I'd expect from a 750W unit while having a fairly low temperature tolerance so it's not great but it's not bad if you're using one GPU.

Why do you keep recommending that? It's more expensive than the G2... While giving you very little for the additional cost.... Like the G2 to the B2. One of the few real advantages of the G2 over the B2 is that the B2 isn't fully modular, only semi.

would it last a few years without issue, or should i look towards another brand like evga or corsair?
