Do monitors need drivers?

I recently bought a Benq xl2720Z 144hz gaming monitor. Its been playing up, turning off all my graphics card ports for no reason 5 mins after turning it on.

I asked a friend what I should do, he said does it need drivers? I said idk, so here I am. Do I need drivers?

No, windows computers don't need drivers for it to display output. It DOES need to know what monitor it is to run at 144Hz.

I dont understand? how do I tell it what monitor is to run at 144hz? We talking about Nvidia control area, and setting it to 144hz? I did that, but it still doesn't explain why it would turn off all the other signals, for my second and third monitor, they just go dead, but the graphics card keeps working, with power. Do monitors draw power? This is the stupidest question I know they dont but humor me!

Monitors draw power from the wall, like your PC. The GPU is always on because it's part of the system, getting power when the system is active. Monitors don't draw power through the display connector.

not sure what you mean when you said it turns off all your monitor ports?! I am assuming you have a multi-monitor set up and when you're using the new one hooked up after 5 mins they all switch off or is it that just the other monitors turn off and the new one stays on playing a game etc?

 

as far as drivers go you will need to make sure your graphics card is up to date so run the nvidia GeForce experience and check if any updates are needed,

try uninstall your current driver using DDU and install an older driver like the 361.xx or 362.xx, 361.91 for example

 

the newest drivers are causing issue with multi monitor setup as well as 144hz displays

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately
