Separate power supply for gpu?

It will not destroy the card if the power is too high. Your PSU just won't reach its full potential..

This is my first build inspired by linus' cheap server gaming rig. It will not destroy the card if the power is too high. Your PSU just won't reach its full potential..

just buy one good PSU

if you cheap out on a PSU then you risk killing your whole PC

 

a good quality PSU that can power your whole system is not that expensive

It's a very, very ghetto way of doing things. Austin did it because he didn't have a choice. I'd try to save up to get refurbrished CPU that's about 1000W or higher. 

Main PC:

The power isnt the problem its the connectors. ive got two psu's in the server at 1000W but because they're server cpus they have no connectors coming off them.

It's just how I see things, if the only options is to get 2 PSUs, he should do it. However, if he would be able to get a single PSU that is 2nd hand or refurbrished... I'd consider it.

Don't forget you will have to jump the connectors on the the psu to trick it into thinking that it is connected to the motherboard.
