Watch netflix

Hi, my mom got a small zotac pc sher got from work. It had no legit windows key so it kept popping a warning that it required activation, so they changed they completely changed the system they use.

Now, she want to use it as an HTPC at home. Actually, she want to use it only for Netflix. So now I'm looking on a way to make it work.

 

I wanted to use open elec as I like kodi, but all the kodi addon require windows... so is there any exploitation system that would be easy to use and allow her to watch netflix ?

you can use windows 10 for free, just dont activate it

just install it, quick and easy installation, then install chrome/chromium then watch netflix

there is just a small watermark on the bottom that says its not activated and you cant change the background

there are workarounds for both these things

yeah ubuntu gnome is quite nice. using it as daily driver with dual boot on my laptop

They got rid of the machine as it got an not activated windows that was popping a window asking to activate... tha's anoying when the computer is used to show slides and video at a funeral. Then everybody is like "omg there is a problem with the screen, what is that, is it broken ?".

Trowing her back the same thing is not what I want. No looking for a workaround, but something legit.

If chrome can run netflix on linux, that's what I'll do. Will try to find some time to do it this weekend.

chrome runs on pretty much everything :P

the installation isn't long if you untick thirdparty programs but I recommend you have them, they come in handy a lot

I installed it, I took the 64 bit version but as I only have 2 gb of ram on that machine, I am wondering if it can be an issue. I watched a video on youtube and it was not as fluid as on my personal computer. Do you think that he 32 bit version can improve my performance ?

I doubt it would, imo increase the ram on the machine, but if you can't right now, maybe installing 32bit may help, keep in mind I said may meaning I'm not exactly sure

I tested it this weekend and it was working fine. I don't know if it have anything to do with updates and some restart, but even youtube was ok.
As a side note, the only way to make Netflix work is to use Chrome (not Chromium), however, it was easy to download an install (I remember that I tried Linux years ago and it was way more complicated to install a software not in the package).
