do i need a wireless card?

KabuTheFox

so recently moved into a new house, modem/router are situated in basement (currently living with fam due to unforeseen circumstances)
looking around the house i do not see any ethernet ports, just the micro-ethernet ports (not sure what they are actually called), i am assuming these are (were) only for phone use.
Am i stuck just using a wireless adapter for my pc....they don't cost much so it wouldn't be a big deal.

if  i do need a wireless adapter, which one would be worth getting?
2.4 and 5 ghz connections
speednet stats: 13 ping, 90~ mb down, 12~mb up

The port is probably for RJ11.

I'd see if you could try a powerline adapter first, to see how it works. If it performs poorly then wireless would be the option. 802.11n or 802.11ac?

What router / access point do you have?

I mean, if those pots in the wall are hooked up you can buy a cheap-ass modem for full Ethernet speed.

Different PCPartPickers for different countries:

Well, with an i7, GTX 1080, Full tower and flashy lights, it can obviously only be for one thing:

Solitaire.

Any PCI-E card. Do not get a simple dongle or adapter because they can fail easily. Personally, I'd get one of these https://www.scan.co.uk/products/edimax-ew-7822pic-ac1200-dual-band-pcie-wifi-network-card-1200mbps-80211a-b-g-n-ac-24-5ghz-dual-high

However you can spend as little as £10 if you know what card you need.

My Rig:

Xeon E5 1680 V2 @ 4.5GHz - Asus Rampage IV Extreme X79 Mobo - 64GB DDR3 1600MHz - 8 x 8GB Corsair Vengeance Low Profile - CAS 10-10-10-27 - AMD Radeon RX 6700XT Sapphire Pulse 12GB - DeepCool E-Shield E-ATX Tempered Glass Case - 1 x 1TB Crucial P1 NVMe SSD - BeQuiet Straight Power 11 850W Gold+ Quad rail - Fractal Design Celsius S36 & 6 x 120mm silent fans - Lenovo KBBH21 - Corsair Glaive RGB Pro - Windows 10 Pro 64-Bit

Monitors - 3 x Acer Nitro 23.8" 1080p 75Hz IPS 1ms Freesync Panels = AMD Eyefinity @ 75Hz

Just get one that is capable of such frequencies. My laptop is a piece of crap and only gets 2.4 ghz connections. Just get a good one.

I have a problem with people. The only things I like are 787Bs and PCs.

What router do you have? Look for a model number on it.

Erm yeah, I guess there is. Either way, you can go into any IT shop and buy one so it doesn't make a difference I suppose.

the archer 1750 or 1900 both look pretty good, i will probably end up grabbing the 1750. there seems to be minimal difference between them

It's also worth testing out a powerline adapter in your home. The performance and stability can vary greatly depending on the wiring if your house, but if it's good then it will give you a better result than wireless.

Here is an alright one: http://www.amazon.com/TRENDnet-Powerline-Adapter-Gigabit-TPL-408E2K/dp/B00I0MKIDO/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

Here's one that I have: http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-PA8010P-KIT-Pass-through-Powerline/dp/B00Y3QPG1A/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1460405415&sr=1-1&keywords=tplink+av1200 sadly the wiring of my house is shit.

If there is somewhere you could return them to if they don't work in your house, that would be great. Like a microcenter.
