Upgrade rig from 2013 to 2016 need help and advice

freetire

Howdy Folks, im in Canada and if possible i would like to build something on 1500$ - 2000$ MAX. im far from a enthusiast on PC i just want something that will last me 4-6 years wihtout upgrading from scratch again. im not looking for 1440p gaming nor 4k. my current pc is : AMD A10-5800k APU, AMD HD 7850 1GB, 8GB RAM,and SSD. im playing most of all AAA game and most MMO currently on low/med settting OK-ish. but newer game like Star Citizen. Cameloth Unchained, Black Desert Online, CrowFall, The Division, i want my PC to run it with Decent FPS and having a nice time while im playing and not lagging and breaking out immersion because graphic are just discusting. im not a content creator nor a streamer / youtuber. only a gamer who enjoy playing on is free time.. i was wondering between a i5-6600k or i7-6700k, GTX 970 / r9 390 , and 16gb RAM. like i said i dont want to re-do all this again in 3 years. if possible i want my CPU to Last me 4-7years. i will maybe upgrade GPU later but for now i want something that will last me A LONG TIME. if you have any suggestion or idea please do. everything is appreaciated.

You need to wait a few more months, new GPU's are incoming which should fully support DX12

If for gaming go with the 6600k, as the 6700k is too OP (IMO) as there are no games (that I know of) that utilize more than 8 cores and for the GPU, I would go with either as they would both smash 1080p gaming but you may need the extra VRAM (8GB) of the r9 390 in the future. I wiuld have a browse on PC PARTPICKER and just see what other people have done in the completed builds section.

Laptop - Dell 7559

Intel Core i7 -6700hq / Nvidia GTX 960m / 16gb RAM / 128GB M.2 SSD / 1TB HDD

yes most of my time i spent on my PC is Gaming. maybe some work on it too but i dont need something that will render in 0.15sec.. i dont mind waiting. but 95% of my time is gaming.

if he wants this rig to last and plays triple A games, his best bet is get an i7 due to DX12 utilising more threads

as for what cpu and gpu to get,

i recommend getting the i7 6700k if you're not planning to upgrade your cpu for a long time

as for gpu, the r9 390 will do you great, it outperforms the gtx 970 by a lot in DX12

and performs almost on par on DX11 (the 390 beats the 970 more often)

16gb of ram is sufficient

something like this

it'll last you for quite some time, only the gpu might need a boost after 3~5 years

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

but hm are they going to be pricey ? if its near a 980 ti price not that i dont want one its just overkill.. and Pascal GPU are near that price range not sure but maybe. from now till then i should be able to fully get fund for my rig. so i guess waiting for the GPU or taking something out right now and maybe upgrading later for Pascal. would be an option

if possible, just wait for pascal gpu to come out

you can buy the rest of the system first and live with the igpu for a month or two :P

pascal coming out around june
