is 22.5 ms for a hard drive acess time normal?

hi,

 

I was wondering if is 22.5 ms for a Seagate st31000524as 1tb hard drive normal?

Depends on how you measure it. If you look up that model number, Seagate quotes 4.17ms average latency. This appears to be half the maximum rotational of 60/7200=8.33ms.

Depends on I/O size, drive activity, what your using to get that figure etc etc. Generally speaking no 22.5ms is not bad for real life access I/O. Microsoft recommend below 20ms for things like SQL server but this is a demanding server application that is sensitive to I/O latency.

The pc is dell oem and the motherboard surports up to sata 2 speed while the hard drive surports up to sata 3 speed.
