Asus Xonar DSX vs SupremeFX

Hi everyone. :-)

I am building a new computer and I am at a bit of a loss on this topic.

I intended to buy a gryphon z87 and put a xonar DSX in that, but I am not sure whether or not that card can go into a pcie 2.0 slot? Theres no pcie x1 slot on that MB so I was thinking either of going Sabertooth Z87 with the DSX card instead or Maximus VI gene with the supremeFX onboard sound..

Can anyone help me clarify if I am correct that the DSX card wont work in a pcie 2.0 slot and if not, what should I go for to get the best directional sound for gaming.

Thanks in advance. :-)

The DSX will definitely work in a PCI-e 2.0 slot whether it be 1x, 4x, 8x or 16x in size / bandwidth.

I would love to stick to my original build with the gryphon Z87, xonar dsx and a couple of 770 in sli.

Would a dedicated sound card be a better option than onboard? Even if it's the supremeFX?

Sendt fra min M48 felttelefon.

no, nowadays onboard audio is very good and in some case (like with low impedance headphones) it is better than soundcards.  So unless you get interference, like buzzing or pops, clicks and static sound you will not gain anything from a soundcard.

Especially skip it if it's going to screw with your build

So, what you are saying is that the gain from a soundcard over the onboard on the maximus VI gene is minimal? And that I would be hard pressed to tell the difference between the two even with directional sound etc?

So, all it comes down to is astetics really then, gryphon with the armor kit or the gene. Might as well go for the gene and save some euros.

yes, you'd be much better off putting anything else in there you'd like to include.  Even a second GPU is only half-snakeoil.
