One GTX 980Ti. Avoid SLI issues such as microstuttering and improper utilisation, while having less heat and power consumption.

I believe 2x970 will have more horse power but lot less VRAM.

Go for 980ti. SLI isnt always working these days... Single GPU is a guaranteed success.

i would get the 980ti . But if you already have one 970 and plan one buying a second one , i strongly suggest waiting for pascal/polaris.

The dual 970's might actually give you higher performance. I would still go for the single 980ti because is saves space and power and gives you a more sensible upgrade path.

Although I've never had any issues with my 970's in SLi, the 980ti is better overall.

I was very excited to get my first SLi setup with 970's.I got both 970's used on ebay for ~$250 each so I'm not mad at my decision but I was disappointed in the lack of SLi support and have since bought a 980ti.

Id do 2 "old" cards. Nothing wrong with sli. Most people just go off hearsay about all the draw backs. Ran sli in the 5,6,7 and 9 series cards, no issues in the games I played.

Main RIg Corsair Air 540, I7 9900k, ASUS ROG Maximus XI Hero, G.Skill Ripjaws 3600 32GB, 3090FE, EVGA 1000G5, Acer Nitro XZ3 2560 x 1440@240hz

Spare RIg Lian Li O11 AIR MINI, I7 4790K, Asus Maximus VI Extreme, G.Skill Ares 2400 32Gb, EVGA 1080ti, 1080sc 1070sc & 1060 SSC, EVGA 850GA, Acer KG251Q 1920x1080@240hz

There's nothing wrong with it, but there are true drawbacks.  Likely the biggest concern is that SLi support isn't always available and when it is, it's not always that great in terms of optimization.  Another drawback is that the VRAM is not stackable, so you're getting the VRAM capacity of a single card.

In my opinion SLi gets a bad reputation because people don't research it that well and they are disappointed when they finally realize that it's not twice as powerful, with twice the VRAM, and doesn't work universally.

Runs fine for every cod, and the bf games. Especially on 3 screen. 6gb's is plenty, so not too concerned. The pair of 980's I tried worked well enough even with just 4gb's.

I've never had any truly bad SLi performance from my 970's, but at 1440p or beyond I've noticed that my 980ti performs more than 10fps better in most games.

Meh, depends on how you go about it. If you just mean getting blocks. Two 970's can equal the price of a 980ti. Then it just comes down to buying one extra block. Either way I'm sure you'll be happy
