I notice they're always talking on the show about how much they hate this gloss stuff. I don't quite understand though. Are they talking about like the stuff that borders one of my old monitors for example (HP w1907)? What's the problem with this material that they hate it so much? Because I never gave it a second thought.

Glossy material always get fingerprints everywhere and in my experience it shows dust a lot more.

It can also visually get damaged (scratches) a lot easier (or a lot more noticeable) than non glossy stuff.

I have never liked glossy stuff too.

Part of it is having glossy plastic anywhere you need to touch is going to leave fingerprints. There's also the matter of glossy plastic generally not looking like a premium material. It tends to look cheap, where a matte or more satin type plastic would look better.

It attracts fingerprints, smudges easily, gets visibly dirty quicker than even brushed aluminium...

It's terrible. Which is why some people sand it down to make a rougher, less glossy bezel on monitors.

Okay so that makes sense because that's what appears to happen with said monitor I have. I also dislike the sort of glare/reflection it kind of gives off. What materials are better to look for when shopping for a new monitor?

brushed aluminum is good IMO, but whatever floats your boat or tickles your eggs, lol

to game or not to game, that`s the question
