As said in the title i need some help to overclock my Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 2.5Ghz to my most desired clock of 3Ghz, it may not be much for some but for me it's enough.

I have a Gigabyte G41M-Combo Motherboard, 4GB DDR2 800Mhz Ram and a AMD Radeon R7 240 Saphire 1GB Boost.

I have tried overclocking it by changing the FSB from 333 to as much as 400 which is what i need for 3Ghz, all while changing the voltages of the cpu to max of 1.30625V and the ram to not more than 2V, the RAM timing were 4-4-4-12 (originaly it was 5-5-5-18) the thing that decides the frequency of the ram as i overclock it i changed to 2.00 to be 800Mhz.

Also i am currently running everything on AUTO and i can do a 2.56Ghz overclock, which i find strange,

Im just sitting here waiting for an answer

your board is g41. you'll be lucky to get much further than 333 fsb. you'll need a better board.

G series chipsets are not overclockers, they're built on the cheap.

You'll need a quality P35/P45 board at least. X38/X48 or nForce 790i will work as well.

Mind you for the price of some of those now you'd probably be able to put together a new system.

The New Machine: Intel 11700K / Strix Z590-A WIFI II / Patriot Viper Steel 4400MHz 2x8GB / Gigabyte RTX 3080 Gaming OC w/ Bykski WB / x4 1TB SSDs (x2 M.2, x2 2.5) / Corsair 5000D Airflow White / EVGA G6 1000W / Custom Loop CPU & GPU

The Rainbow X58: i7 975 Extreme Edition @4.2GHz, Asus Sabertooth X58, 6x2GB Mushkin Redline DDR3-1600 @2000MHz, SP 256GB Gen3 M.2 w/ Sabrent M.2 to PCI-E, Inno3D GTX 580 x2 SLI w/ Heatkiller waterblocks, Custom loop in NZXT Phantom White, Corsair XR7 360 rad hanging off the rear end, 360 slim rad up top. RGB everywhere.

That won't be happening i literally just got this board after saving up like crazy. If i could get anything new it would be RAM, HDD, Power Supply and then a video card. And then the cycle would repeat by getting a new motherboard and cpu. But for now i just want to overclock this thing. But seriously why did they put an overclocking utility if i can't utilize it?
