No new chipset, just a new family: Broadwell-E.

Wait for Broadwell-E then snatch up a 5820K for a very reduced price.

Broadwell-E will be on X99/LGA2011-3, so don't worry too much about that.

and as @ReturnOfCzex said, you could just wait for Broadwell-E and pick up a clearance 5820K.

If you're building a gaming system the i7-6700k seems to be beating everything, even the 5960x. If you're using your computer as a workstation too then the 5820k is a great buy. The will likely be new Broadwell-E cpus coming soon, but as far as I know there isn't any kind of real IPC increase, so the only reason to wait for Broadwell-E would be if you were looking for an 8-core. Since the i7-6900k isn't the flagship of Broadwell-E (the 10-core i7-6950x is) maybe it'll be cheaper than the $1000 for the 8-core i7-5960x. But the i7-6800k heaxacore doesn't look a whole lot different from the i7-5820k hexacore in stats at least. And since Broadwell IPC improvements looked really minimal on the i7-5775c vs i7-4790k, I probably wouldn't wait just to buy a hexacore. But I'd read the reviews of the Broadwell-E Xeons that just came out to see whether perhaps they did squeeze something worth paying for into Broadwell-E.

Intel will be on 14nm for a few more years. Kaby Lake and Cannonlake will both probably be on LGA1151. Incremental IPC performance increases are likely for Intel. Now if you are going to wait for a new CPU, AMD's Zen FX at the end of this year will be interesting.

Skylake's next gen will not arrive for quite some time, so you might as well just grab the 6700K. But for grabbing 5820K, I'll wait until Broadwell-E arrives before doing a upgrade.

why not get a 750ti to hold you over until broadwell e comes out? i am assuming you have a pre built so i recommend getting the low profile one incase you have a half size case.
