Does it have to be a laptop? You will get more bang for you buck buying a PC. Also, why a nvidia specifically, AMD is generally better on a budget.

How about razors new ultra book or whatever it's called. You won't have a gpu right away but if you save up and buy the core down the road that would be the best for gaming and just making sweet love to the fps gods.

I already use a PC for that and I plan on buying a laptop as a secondary machine for basic video editing. Also, I need specifically nvidia because cuda helps the software perform smoother and render faster.

Dell 5558 seems to be friendlier to my wallet and more reasonable for the level of editing I require for my work. How is the laptop overall?

I guess I quoted the wrong price. After converting dollars to rupees and adding the taxes, laptops a bit expensive in India. Dell 7559 is costing me around 1300$ here.

How about Acer aspire v3-574g 15"? Its packing some decent specs and I think it would be enough for basic editing. But are Acer laptops bang for the buck?

I second the dell 7559. Using it currently. It handles games, Photoshop, Lightroom, And premiere works great also. And it has upgradable ram and an extra 2.5'' harddrive slot  for mass storage of photos and video.

I just checked out on Dell's website, this laptop isn't available in India.

An ideal laptop for video editing (a laptop good enough for video editing should handle photo editing very well) should consist of:

  • i7 quad core (8 threads) or at least an i5 quad core (with 4 threads minimum)
  • a dedicated GPU, in this case a nVidia mobile GPU should perform better than AMD mobile
  • minimum 8GB of memory, 16 would be better
  • SSD as the primary storage, either a high capacity one or a laptop that allows the installation of 2 storage drives.

So look for any laptop model that is available in your country, for your budget, that fits those criteria.

if you are flexible with the GPU, try looking at the new Dell XPS 13 or the Dell XPS 15

I guess I should've done that ?

But anyways the budget is Rs 66,155 at the most. (The exact conversion of 1000$)
