I own a HP envy 700-414

It runs windows 10

core i5-4570 possessor/ graphics (Intel HD Graphics 4600)

12Gb of ddr3 ram

Hewlett-Packard 2AF7

1863GB Seagate ST2000DM001-1ER164 (SATA)  HDD

I got it as a Christmas present and I would like to upgrade it to play games at a decent level, Mainly things like war thunder, WOT, and i might try CS-GO. I don't need super great but right now i get maybe 20 FPS at low/medium settings.

My main question is for $200-$300 do you think would be my best bet for a GPU? And is it possible that my CPU will bottleneck the GPU? I have been thinking about other small upgrades but that is not for this post.

By the way i do plan on doing research of course i just would like to get an idea before diving right in.

Thanks guys in advance,

This looks a lot like a laptop? Is this a laptop or a desktop for clarification? And price range?

Thanks, I would recommend getting a SSD, and see if you can spend the money for a GTX 970. My 970 plays War Thunder over 70 fps at movie settings and it looks great.

Nah, the PSU he has doesn't have the connectors to feed the 960 (it needs 6+6 IIRC)

First thing first. You need to crack open that case and take a look at the connectors coming from the PSU. If you see a connector that has 2 rows of 3 pins making a rectangle, then you have a 6 pin PCI-Express connector. Sometimes it will have 2 more pins that can be attached to the other 6. This is known as an 8 pin connector You will need a 6 pin and an 8 pin connector for any decent GPU out there. If you don't have this, then you need to upgrade the PSU to a 80 Plus rated PSU. I'd recommend going with a Gold Rated 750W PSU.

Next, I would recommend going with either a R9 380x or GTX 970. Both should be within your price range. A R9 390x would be excellent, but it's $100 above your top range.

You're not going to be able to do SLI or Crossfire with your current PSU, so don't even consider it.
