Is It Safe to Force a 120 mm Fan in the Exhaust Grill for a 80-90 mm Fan?

Ummm dust' definitly'll be an issue here, but otherwise I don't se any issue on DIY fn adjustments.

Recently I've been incredibly annoyed with how I've been purchasing parts for my new build, as I've had to repurporse an extra hard drive and have now been wondering how to also use a 120 mm fan I shouldn't I got. As I learned in my previous post, the exhaust fan not included in my Xion XON-310_BK should be either 80 or 90 mm. I already purchased the exhaust fan though (A Cooler Master SickleFlow 69.7 CFM) so I wondered if it's even remotely safe to duck tape the fan on the grill so I won't have to return it. If this is safe, than it would also be good to know if I should edit any fan settings.

Biggest issue is will fan actually fit to space there. It will fit outside of the case for sure. But it might be too wide for case sidepanel and mobo I/O. If you are using low profile CPU cooler (I saw your previous post but can't remember), you can also get adapter duct. Like from 80mm to 120mm. Duct is about as thick as fan itself, so it will be close or over CPU at that point. And also, case sidepanel will be limiting factor.

It would be fine, it isn't ideal but it won't break anything.

My family's old desktop had the 90mm exhaust fan break and I threw on a spare 120mm fan I had lying around until I could get a proper fan a few weeks later.

Temps seemed just fine even when someone would game on it.
