Green circle is for audio out to your headphones / speakers (stereo 2, 2.1)
Pink circle is for microphone
The other circles are for surround solutions 5.1, 7.1 etc.

The green headphone one is just for 2 not 2.1 as it doesn't send three audio signals it sends two left and right. the reason why you can use it with 2.1 is because people usually send it into a cross over which sends the low frequencies but you could do that with all of them (except for CS). Thats why there is a CS out put for centre and sub.
