Which one to get? R9 390 or GTX 970

So as my old GTX 670 is probably dying right now, i was thinking of getting a new GPU, either R9 390 or GTX 970 since they are in the same price range, but i can't decide which one would be better to get regarding the future and performance between them.

There is probably hundreds of this kind of topics but i want "fresh" answers :D

From AMD's side i'd get: Asus AMD R9 390 DirectCuII

From NVIDIA's side i'd get: ASUS STRIX GeForce GTX 970 OC

I'd probably get one of those because they come with free games lol,

NVIDIA, Far Cry Primal and The Division

AMD, Far Cry Primal and Hitman

Current Specs

i7-4790k

EVGA GTX 670

16gb ram

ASUS Z97-A Motherboard

Corsair CX750W V2

AVOID ASUS AND GIGABYTE FOR R9 390 ASUS USED THE SAME COOLING DESIGN FOR NVIDIA BAD PRACTICE AND GIGABYTE USED 2 FAN DESIGN INSTEAD OF THE USUAL 3.

Please don't get an ASUS R9 390. Please. Get a 390, but get an MSI or a Sapphire version. Even Powercolor is better.

I used to be quite active here.

If you think you'll ever do anything with VR, get the 390. Even if you don't, get the 390. ;) Oh, and don't forget, 8GB of VRAM. That means it has plenty of frame buffer, to stay relevant for years to come. And also, I agree with everyone above in saying don't get the Asus version. I love Asus too, but I've heard nothing but trouble from these models. I got the Sapphire 390, and I love it.

roughly 100€ difference.. 390's are around 360-420€ and 390x's are like 500-550€

Considering it's like $80-100 more, probably not.

There are plenty of reasons to recommend the 390 over the 970, and vice versa.

But for the love of god, stop using the 8GB buffer as one. It's utterly pointless and unproven to this date.

That's my point, as of this date it won't mean much. 5 years from now, when games can utilize all of it, you'll be happy you have it.

5 years from now it's a piece of shit regardless, if it even still works.

Excuse me If your sarcasm failed.

I'm not being sarcastic. There ARE some people out there that can't even afford to buy new equipment every 5 years. So, it's best to plan ahead.

Dont get Asus or Gigabyte for AMD. I wouldnt get a strix 970 either since it prioritizes silence over cooling. I vote 390. Sapphire, MSI or XFX is fine. Double check your clearance if you decide MSI or Sapphire. MSI  takes up 3 slots and Sapphire is long.
