Can Blue Lasers in Blu-Ray Players Read DVDs and CDs

Appleboy45

So knowing how Blu-Ray players can read DVDs and CDs also, do they use the blue laser that they use to read Blu-Rays, or do they have blue and red lasers?

I thought this was a dumb question at first. Then I thought about it and now you have me actually thinking about this. Blu-Ray can read both.

I know that, but does it use a red laser when playing DVDs and CDs, or do DVDs support the blue lasers?

Uses the same laser. Just the blue one can read smaller wave lengths.

This is wrong

This is incorrect. Blu-ray drives that can read DVDs and CDs have access to the different lasers in order to perform the function.

So to answer the question posed by the OP, no. The bluish lasers cannot be used to read DVDs or CDs.
