My cousin was saying that she might have not done it correctly. She has a 6500K... wouldn't it just not work at all if it was "badly seated"?

Are any pins bent on the Motherboard?

Not that I would know. Thing is, if they are... wouldn't it just not work?

No, it could just cause instability. I've seen it happen where someone was getting random BSODs and straightening the single bent pin fixed it.

I've built 3 PC's, but none for myself... In fact, I'm using an iMac that my dad bought for me as my desktop. Awkward...

Please don't say "SSD drive." By doing so, you are literally saying "Solid State Drive Drive" and causing my brain cells to commit suicide. The same applies to HDD (Hard Disk Drive) and PCIe (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express).

She isn't bluescreening, she's just getting weird window outlines popping up once every few days. As well as slow loading icons, and deleting the iconcache didn't do anything.

Stutter in some games but that may just be her 2GB of VRAM.

Oh sorry meant 6500, not K.

Also she has tried running off her CPU for a few days and it still happens from time to time, but now way to test stutters since game performance is shit with integrated anyway.

Inspect the socket for bent pins to completely rule it out. The CPU is oriented correctly at the very least as if it was installed the wrong way, it wouldn't work or even go into the socket without a lot of force.

Don't think she's one for re-applying paste like that. Maybe I could just take it out for a quick look on her birthday. Planning on getting her an AIO as an excuse. Still the thing is working. Heck it passed 5 minutes of the Intel XTU test and 5 minutes of Aida64. Got a little hot at 84C max but not bad I guess.

I personally don't care as she is having problems, and we're trying to rule out as many things as possible. You can certainly wait till you get the AIO, and try other things before then.

It'll be in a week. I'll make a new thread with a picture and let you guys determine it. I didn't notice anything wrong when I built it for her.

And honestly, it could come down to software issues where the hardware has nothing to do with the problems.

Well idk man, Witcher 3 doesn't really constitute as bad software. Maybe it's VSYNC for game stutter? Like my issue. Explain again, anything below 59.9-60.0FPS would feel like a stutter with VSYNC on right?

I didn't say anything about Witcher 3. How about Windows? Drivers? There are a multitude of possibilities here. V-Sync can certainly cause stutter when going below 60FPS.

Well her stutter occurs in games, and she plays A LOT of Witcher 3. She's using the latest 16.3 drivers. Windows 10 64-bit (come to think of it she never complained about anything when she was on 8.1)...

What graphics card is she using? W10 is not unknown for problems, and I'm one of the complainers.

R9 380 2GB. She put the settings all to High and a few to medium which allowed for 60FPS in the game. I know she probably wouldn't mind going back... I wouldn't either.

How old is this build? I know you mentioned Windows 8.1, but it doesn't really tell me the age of the build. If the build is older, then I doubt the CPU would be improperly installed if she's just encountering issues.

It's a Skylake build. Built right when it came out.

Hmm. So when I get her the AIO I'll take a few pics of the socket and I'll re-install 8.1 for her. What a God awful OS this is. Would go to 7 but my boot times...

I've had issues with some boards not liking the mount pressure of some coolers when fully screwed. But a bad seat would normally cause a no POST situation. Maybe pcie lanes running at x8 or no dual channel but that's more likely paste on one of the pads/pins.
