Is 970 SLI Worth It?

tvkicx

I want to know if it's worth buying another 970 to SLI or should I just sell the one I have an get a new GPU?

Well everyone will recommend selling and getting a single better GPU then 2 weaker ones that would over power the single better one. This is due to SLI/Crossfire shitty compatibility drivers.

Edit: Its really up to you. If you use programs/games that have sli compatibility then go for it. However I don't think anyone who has sli'd cards before hasn't run into a problem.

No

Multi GPU is a bitch

I am praying to God that AMD and Nvidia get their act together and release new driver updates that fix a majority of sli problems. Seriously imagen a world where sli and crossfire worked no different then having just one card, a world where GPU's could live and work in harmony. Lol. If that patch came out I could simply at Christmas time pop in another 280x and improve my GPU horsepower by like 75% for like $150...

Two 970's perform about the same as a 980 Ti. Just get a 980 Ti. Then you wont have all the problems that come with sli

if next gen isnt great then you will be able to find used 970s for cheap

if next gen is great then sell your 970 and upgrade

Omg... I would be so happy... Seriously that would be a great world. However lower end cards like the 960, 280/380... etc would not cost $180-$220. Nvidia and AMD would never sell their higher end cards if sli/crossfire worked like this. They are too selfish :(

Sounds like nightmare for Nvidia's profitability

Something they apparently value more than their firstborn

Yeah, AMD and Nvidia would never permit a hassle free sli/crossfire experience. They care about their profit more then customer happiness.

Right now GTX 970 can run most of games on high/ultra at 1080/1440p at 60fps.

If you can, try to wait for pascal and polaris.

But to answer your original answer, I must agree with other people saying that crossfire and SLI are crapy. It would be better to have single powerfull GPU.

Lets hope polaris and pascal won't have those problems with sli and crossfire xD

Thanks for all the feedback people, I'll just wait until the next gen GPU's. Also, I'm pretty sure things will change quite a bit with DX12.
