New Build

PANZERVW

Well my BestBuy ASUS gaming PC took a dump so instead of flopping cash for another boutique PC, I thought I would take a crack at building one. Why? well my neighbor gave me a Antec 1200 case(for free). My question is this. Should I use this free case which is NOS, or purchase something newer that is out there?

No parts where salvageable from the old rig. Blank slate start with the case as a starting point. With a $2k budget that I think should be ok. I would like to keep it air cold since that case has a lot of fans.

Just did some research on my Antec 1200 case and it is V1 not the V3 that everyone builds. The difference is the 3.0 USB slot and 2.5" SSD slots. How hard would it to modify the V1 case to offer the same features a V3 case offers?

Includes a 1440p 144hz IPS Free-sync display if your main focus is gaming

only has a 390 because next gen GPUs will be out in a few months and you'd be best off buying a top end GPU then to saturate the display

Sure. There is a lot I don't know about when it comes to builds. Gaming, memory, SSD, graphics, did I mention memory?

Except it's a much better idea to buy a 4k display first, and then in a few months next gen GPUs will be out that will outperform a 980ti for the same cost

and your CPU is going to be way more important for video rendering than your GPU, and you'd want a high end 4k display for video editing, for productivity and color accuracy potentially

but we will always be waiting for better gpus... it will be 6 to 9 months before the full pascal gpus are released. also, yes a 4k monitor would be good to buy with it

June/july for 400 series GPUs, pascal probably a month after, we're not always waiting, but when it's 2-3 months away, it's worth the wait

Also an AMD GPU is still going to save you cash on your display with free-sync

the initial pascal release is then.. point is its a great system now and still will be in 3 years

Well, ya know, aside from people with Kepler GPUs potentially...Hopefully nvidia doesn't do the same thing for maxwell owners

Well are you running fallout patch 1.3? if so you should do some comparison benchmarks between an earlier patch and the new one

so it doesn't bother me

How could you not care that nvidia seems to be trying to degrade performance on older generation cards? If the apparent trend continues both kepler and maxwell might be losing performance in future games once pascal is a bit mature.

But this is all a bit tin foil hatty, if it happens in another game in the near future, I don't know why people would continue to buy nvidia products.
