GPU info needed

Go to solution Solved by Simon771,

For gaming use you say ... SLI and Crossfire will bring more problems than performance in most games.

I would go for single card. Eaither 980 ti or Titan X.

Check some youtube videos and forum discusions about SLI/crossfire ... not bad for benchmarking toget higher score, but in practical usage it's better to have single GPU.

At least that's what I hear from linus youtube videos and forums.

Or how about a 980Ti?

What are you using it for? Use cases?

The problem is that this is an nVidia product and scoring any nVidia product a "zero" is also highly predictive of the number of nVidia products the reviewer will receive for review in the future.

That's too much for gaming. Definitely too much for 1080p gaming.

Give us a little more detail.

I red that two 980 can destroy a 980ti, now i want to know if they can destroy a Titan X or if i should go with the Titan

They can destroy a 980Ti if SLI is utilised properly. However, SLI has the potential to bring problems such as micro stuttering and poor scaling (if it's used at all). It's always better to go with a single stronger card.

With that said, a 980Ti is pretty much on par, if not better, than a Titan X.

So the final answer is?

980Ti. It'll yield less performance if SLI properly utilised but you won't have to deal with SLI issues.

A single 980Ti is a better choice, if strictly speaking, 980Ti vs 980Ti SLI vs Titan X.

If you're turning off SLI, then that's a waste of a 980Ti. It won't cause problems, but you won't get the SLI performance.

You will be wasting the other card since it would do nothing but sit there. Also some games support SLI, but not well so you get lag.

You said it yourself. If SLI isn't supported, you only have the horsepower of one GPU, not two. In the case of SLI'd 980s, if a game doesn't support SLI, you can only get the performance of one 980. The GTX 980Ti will then provide more performance.

On top of that, SLI can produce microstuttering. Not a pleasurable experience.

Lag and only making use of one 980 in some games which a single 980ti can beat.

Well, nobody wants to waste money... frankly you can do whatever you want, but we are warning you that hey, there are problems with SLI, even though the SLI solution is far better than a single Titan X.

What resolution would you game on? And what CPU are you buying?

Then you don't need dual 980Tis or a Titan X. You might even end up bottlenecking the CPU with that kind of a GPU configuration. A single 980Ti or a Fury X is plenty good for 1440p gaming.

well if you think so, go for the titan x. have fun wasting money

you wont need 12gb vram for 1440p and hes using reference clocks for comparison. overclocked 980tis are running 300-400mhz higher on core, therefore outperform the titanx. sure you can oc a titanx too. but theres no gain in performance at all, youre just paying more for vram you cant utilize (well ofc with 100 texture mods, if you really want to you can, but in most games you dont)
