Honestly, there's no one method to touch typing. By definition, "touch typing" is typing without looking at the keyboard. The home-row key method is one of many, designed specifically to reduce travel distance for each finger, which is what gives it its speed (user-dependent, but still). Through sheer force of will and muscle memory, it's entirely possible to learn to touch-type relatively fast even with only 2-3 fingers.

To properly learn the home-row key method, you would need to start it at an early age, usually before the age of 10. The longer you wait to start, the more difficult it will be (but still possible through unrelenting effort). This is true when trying to learn just about anything - it's easier to do as a child.

In your case, stick to how you're typing right now, but don't look at the keyboard. You will make mistakes initially, but power through it. Fix the mistakes (without looking at the keyboard), and keep at it. The more often you do that, the faster you'll build up muscle memory, and your fingers will naturally gravitate towards the keys and allow you to type fairly accurately.

Then start adding a finger each time, until you can comfortably type with 3, 4, 5, or more fingers. Build that up gradually.

using the home row stuff, you'll start off balls-awful slow, but you will definitely get better if you consistently use the correct fingers for things.  just stick with the right fingers and practice, practice, practice.  You'll get faster.  And don't cheat.  It only hurts yourself in the long run.

You could follow a typing course. I did this when I was 7 or 8, I can type will all 10 fingers pretty fast

There are enough courses our there, go find one!
