I'm going to upgrade my GPU. I got a 270x and I notice that it needs to be replaced.

There are a few options for me

- R9 390 8GB but then I would need a new PSU with an estaminated cost = € 500

          - no free games

- GTX 970 4GB on my current PSU (500w) with an estaminated cost of € 380

           - 2 X the division and 1 X Far cry Primal (Asus voucher and store voucher)

- wait for pascal to be released and hope that it is in the same price range.

so I need some advice,

How's the 3.5 GB myth on the 970? (I only play at 1080p)

and which one is the best value for buck?

I've rarely ever had an issue with the 3.5GB of VRAM thing, the GPU itself usually runs out of juice before it becomes an issue.

The R9 390 is the best VFM as a standalone card, how much you value the free games and new PSU is more subjective.

However, as you already have a GPU, I would consider waiting until Pascal and Polaris come out, you may well be able to get more power for less money and not need a new PSU either.

I was thinking on going with the Asus Strix one since I get a voucher for 2 games from asus + a voucher for the division

get a G1 970 and overclock it to smithereins like i have, mine is running 1629Mhz core right now :D well with the games deal i would go 970 tbh, the 390 is a better card and will do better at higher resolutions but the 970 is totaly fine at 1080p, i get 300+ fps everywere in CS:GO maxed out 1080p, and in almost no games lower then 60fps at any time on high/ultra

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Well about the free games, I would sell the second 'the division' so I would get some money back from it (could prolly sell it for about € 30-35)

Also, I didn't really do much research about polaris / pascal. When are they being released? or when will we have more info about them?

I'd wait, to be honest. If it was my money, I couldn't bring myself to buy a 970 knowing I already had a GPU which worked and Pascal/Polaris are just around the corner.
