Re-read what I said.

"95% of people will not overclock far enough to make up for the difference between having [4 threads, and 8 threads]"

I never said it doesn't make a difference. Most poeple however only barely overclock, maybe going up 0.2-0.3ghz from stock turbo, which, surprisingly, will still not give a lead on an 8 thread xeon when it comes to anything multitasking. (Plus with blck and turbo you can "kind of" overclock xeon's too, just not nearly to the extent of a k skew, on an overclocking chipset.)

I already have 16gb DDR3 so that's not an issue. What do you think?

No sense in getting a z97 since you can't directly modify the ratio or voltage, so pickup a cheaper board and save a bit of money.

Honestly, not really anymore, even LTT is recognizing this. For a tight budget build, with a sub 650$ price, sure. But for anything over 16gbs is becoming more and more mandatory if you want to do anything else outside of gaming.

I hate to keep bugging you, but could you recommend a new mobo/gpu? I'm really bad with this stuff.

Most of us here on the forums do so to help others, so it's no problem; I'm not heading anywhere until later today.

If you want to go with the xeon, then this board should work well,

http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-motherboard-b85mgr20

and with the money saved you can step up to a 390X, and actually the best non-hybrid 390X

I'm looking for raid support, so that board's out. What about this one?
