Sound from GPU?

I want to connect my pc to my 50 inch TV and play audio through the TV but my motherboard does not have an hdmi port so can i connect an old gpu of mine R7 260x which has hdmi and get sound playing from the tv?

well your gpu supports AMD TrueAudio, so it should be able to

If it supports, shouldn't be a problem. I have my audio coming from my gfx card to my monitor then to the speakers with no issue. Though I now use DisplayPort it worked just as well with HDMI.

I've always wondered why GPU audio can't be used with regular non HDMI headphones.

TrueAudio is an audio processing aspect of the chip, but it is not a sound output device.  It's the HDMI Audio Device on the GPU that would act as the audio device and basically ALL graphics chips include these now,  Nvidia, Intel, or AMD, they all offer HDMI audio integrated into their chipsets.
