would a hyper 212 evo be good for overclocking a 6600k, and if not what would you recommend?

it would fare quite well

depends on how far you push your cpu though

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

I think it would do well for light/ moderate overclocks.

CPU: i7-12700KF Grill Plate Edition // MOBO: Asus Z690-PLUS WIFI D4 // RAM: 16GB G.Skill Trident Z 3200MHz CL14

GPU: MSI GTX 1080 FE // PSU: Corsair RM750i // CASE: Thermaltake Core X71 // BOOT: Samsung Evo 960 500GB

STORAGE: WD PC SN530 512GB + Samsung Evo 860 500GB // COOLING: Full custom loop // DISPLAY: LG 34UC89G-B

it can overclock a fair bit without getting too hot...i have my i7-4770K at 4.2ghz on mine and i have a poop overclocking CPU and a notoriously hot one.

your 6600K is very likely to reach near maximum overclock without thermal issues.

My CPU rarely goes above 68c at those overclocked settings and the fans are quiet but i replaced the original fan on mine.

Also, mine is the Hyper 212 PLUS...not even the EVO, which is even better.

it's good.

This one would be even better though OP if you're in the US...it's got a better fan and it's a bit bigger and it looks better...cost about the same:

its good, keeps my 4690k at 4.2ghz under 60 degrees in aida and around 55 normal games with a good fan speed (not full blast) in an h440 so not a tonne of airflow

This. The three "conventional" tower coolers I think are top-tier and within margin of error of each other are the 212 EVO, the beQuiet! Pure Rock and the Cryorig H7. My personal preference is the H7 with a Cryorig QF120 Performance fan ($13 extra) strapped to it. It's nearly silent until you start really cranking the speed up, it does a great job of keeping the CPU cool, and it's dead sexy.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

While I'm not a huge fan (no pun intended) of the Hyper 212 Evo.

You can probably get what you need with the 212 Evo.
